friday 5th september...

Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who entered the competition. We had 1,111 pictures from about 250 people, which is an amazing response. We each chose our top 50 each, then refined that to a top 10, then a top five, and fought it out from there. It was be judged by me (David), my wife Andrea, and our staff Louise and Emma.

winners

There should have been 3 winners, but we have added a runner up prize to a picture we all enjoyed.

In alphabetical order the winners are.....

Peter Keel's picture of Dungeness. Obviously a favourite location around here, but a new approach. Shot in bright sunshine with strong shadows, and wonderfully composed.

Annabelle Nicoll's shot of some sand dunes in Finland under snow. A lovely simple composition with very subtle colours. It's called 'Now and Then'.

David Winstanley's shot 'LA Window'. Taken through a car window and a great example of how muck, atmosphere and a spontaneous composition can sometimes really pay off .

Robin Matthew's picture of his children 'peacefully reading the paper' is our runner up. We all liked it for it's humour and tenderness. It's a real 'moment' picture and works on several levels, both as a record, a composition, and it expresses something about the relationships of the subjects and the photographer. Plus a terrific and very unusual composition.
